A small gentle reminder, through this poem, that nobody is a born-anything. They’ve reached where they are by putting in lots of hours and efforts. It’s never as easy as it seems, there’s lot going on to make it as fluid and simple to an onlooker. So, appreciate the effort, and y'all who feel low because of near-zero appreciation; you do you!
I got an A+ in Math today
My friends teased me
Hooted and whistled
I just laughed along
’Cause they don’t know
What goes on behind the scenes
But I wasn’t always a Math whizz
Let’s just leave it at that
I wrote a poem today
They praised me, called it touching
Said I was a natural
I only thanked them
’Cause they don’t know
What goes on behind the scenes
But I wasn’t a born poet
Let’s just leave it at that
I made a canvas today
Gifted it; they loved it
Claimed it must come so easy to me
I simply smiled
’Cause they don’t know
What goes on behind the scenes
But I wasn’t forever the painter
Let’s just leave it at that
Hours of solving the same damn sum
Rewriting until I got the line just right
Nearly quitting when paint spilled all over
That’s what goes on behind the scenes
But never mind
’Cause that’s for them to wonder
And for me to know.
